The Danish upper class has a new scandal on its hands, and this time it’s on Netflix. Secrets We Keep (titled Reservatet in Denmark) is a glossy six-part mystery that plays out behind the gated fences and polished façades of one of Copenhagen’s wealthiest suburbs. The plot kicks off with the sudden disappearance of Ruby, a Filipino au pair, and spirals into a tense investigation led by Cecilie (Marie Bach Hansen), a well-meaning neighbour who slowly uncovers just how much rot lies beneath all that Scandinavian design.

The show knows exactly what it's doing: a mystery rooted in the “missing girl” trope, polished up with elegant visuals and strong performances. Cecilie’s own au pair, Angel (a standout debut from Excel Busano), becomes a reluctant partner in the amateur sleuthing, as the two women dig into uncomfortable truths about class, race, and the quiet power plays that underpin their little neighbourhood utopia. There are shades of Top of the Lake here, but Secrets We Keep makes its own mark with a sharp social lens and a distinctly Danish-Filipino cultural focus.

What elevates the show is its atmosphere: director Per Fly lets the tension simmer under luxurious cinematography courtesy of Jasper Spanning (Queen of Hearts; IMDb). It's a world where people throw garden parties while quietly ignoring each other’s skeletons. And if you squint just right, you can practically see the guilt in the espresso steam.

Not everything is perfect. The plot’s breadcrumbs are sometimes laid a bit too neatly, which might frustrate hardened noir fans. But the strong cast — particularly Hansen as Cecilie, who anchors the series with calm intensity — helps smooth over the familiar beats.

It might not reinvent the wheel, but Secrets We Keep knows how to keep it rolling smoothly, stylishly, and with a faint air of menace. Check out the trailer below.
