’The Kitchen’: London Dystopia Comes to Netflix in January
Basically, Top Boy in the future.
The Kitchen is a new sci-fi thriller coming to Netflix, starring Kane Robinson (best known as Sully from Top Boy) and co-directed by Daniel Kaluuya. The film first premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in October and is set to be released in select UK cinemas on January 12, 2024, and on Netflix on January 19, 2024.
The film is set in a dark, future version of London with a significant social class divide. It follows the working-class residents of one of the city's last remaining social housing estates.
The official synopsis reads: “In a dystopian future London where all social housing has been eliminated, Izi and Benji fight to navigate the world as residents of The Kitchen, a community that refuses to abandon their home.”
Izi, an ex-convict living in The Kitchen, is determined to escape the criminal world. However, when his young son falls seriously ill, he finds himself in a difficult situation. The only way to save his son's life is by taking on one last job - a heist that could change the lives of everyone in The Kitchen and challenge the corrupt billionaires who run the city.
The premise sounds cool and I'm really looking forward to seeing how London will be depicited - The Kitchen will be on Netflix in January. If you can't wait and want to experience future Britian already today, check out the awesome Children of Men from 2006, starring Clive Owen (available on Netflix using a VPN).
