Leave The World Behind debuted with a limited theatrical release on November 22, 2023, to qualify for this year's Academy Awards. Following this, the film is scheduled for a broader release on Netflix on December 8.

Netflix unveiled the official trailer just last month. In this apocalyptic thriller, crafted by the acclaimed writer and director Sam Esmail (of Mr Robot fame), Amanda and her husband Clay decide to spend a weekend away with their children, Archie and Rose, in a luxurious rental home.

However, their vacation takes an unexpected turn when two strangers arrive at night, bringing news of a mysterious cyberattack and seeking refuge in the house, which they insist is theirs. As the two families grapple with the impending disaster, which becomes more terrifying by the minute, they are compelled to confront their roles in a world on the brink of collapse.

The film is an adaptation of the National Book Award-nominated novel by Rumaan Alam. Alam also serves as the film's executive producer alongside Barack and Michelle Obama (!), Tonia Davis, Daniel M. Stillman, and Nick Krishnamurthy.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads: “A family’s (Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke) vacation is disrupted when two strangers (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la Herrold) arrive at night, seeking refuge from a cyberattack that intensifies by the minute, forcing everyone to confront their places in a collapsing world".
